This module examines selected topics in financial economics and applies economic reasoning to the analysis of financial markets and institutions.

The module provides an opportunity to deepen and consolidate previous knowledge by applying concepts from economics to research into a topic of the student’s own choice. Students learn how economists conduct research by carrying out either a critical evaluation of the literature in a chosen area or a replication of an empirical study.

Students are expected to combine economic analysis and statistical techniques, attend lectures on research methodology, formulate an initial proposal, and develop their chosen topic with support and guidance from an academic supervisor.
